"KhunKao" is the nickname of MuayThai Coach Brooks C. Miller. "KhunKao" means "King of Knees" in Thai. He earned this nickname in the ring due to his devastating use of clinched knee strikes.
MuayThai (also called Thai-boxing) is the National Sport of Thailand and is the original sport of Kickboxing, having adapted Western-style ring rules in the 1920's. Competitors are allowed to punch, kick, elbow, and knee each other in the ring. For much of its existence, MuayThai was barely known outside of Thailand's borders. In recent years, martial arts fighting competitions such as K-1, Pride, and the UFC have exploded in popularity, and Thai-boxing's powerful techniques from all ranges of striking have made it the martial art of choice for professional fighters across the world!
Despite it’s reputation as a brutal fighting sport, MuayThai Kickboxing is a martial arts fitness & self-defense program that is both fun & safe for the entire family! MuayThai offers a full body workout that is guaranteed to get you in the best shape of your life! You will be amazed at the results as you literally watch pounds of fat melt from your body, exposing the finely toned muscle beneath! And you can get these amazing results while learning one of the most effective martial arts in existence!
In an effort to showcase local talent , Brooks has founded "Khun Kao Promotions" and begun promoting the amateur fight event, "DC Metro Showdown", which features MuayThai, SanDa, and novice MMA matches. By offering opportunities for local fighters to get much-needed ring experience, it is his goal to elevate the quality of combat sports in the Mid-Atlantic region.
